‘Dine-and-dash’ over £600 lobster invoice as six flee Devon restaurant in Range Rover

Police say they are conducting investigations after a group of six diners were allegedly caught not settling their nearly £600 bill at a seafood restaurant and escaping in a Range Rover.

The alleged ‘dine-and-dash’ took place at The Oyster Shack in Bigbury on Saturday, July 25, when a party, made up of three men and three women, requested four lobsters and a fruits de mer seafood platter before enjoying their meal and departing one-by-one.

The customers accumulated a nearly £600 bill and allegedly scarpered in a black Range Rover.

Following the incident, The Oyster Shack have made repeated efforts to reach the diners on the number they supplied during booking.

However, the proprietor of The Oyster Shack revealed in an update today (July 29) that they have still not received any response from the diners, reports Devon Live.

Kieron Vanstone, proprietor of The Oyster Shack, said: “We’ve given them a deadline for response but they’re still dodging our calls. We have left the matter with the police.”

Though the restaurant’s CCTV wasn’t functioning at the time, another patron managed to record the registration of the black Range Rover the group is thought to have departed in.

They have provided all the details they possess to police.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police, said: “Police are aware of an incident where a number of customers left The Oyster Shack, Bigbury, without paying their bill on Saturday 25 July.

“Enquiries into this matter are ongoing.

“Anyone with any information that may assist investigating officers is asked to call police on 101 or visit our website quoting 50260196491”.
