Gianni Infantino has promised huge financial rewards for football if his FIFA proposals come to fruition.

It was recently reported he is plotting to create a company called ‘FIFA Forward Enterprise’ (FFE) which would open up the opportunity for investors to purchase stocks in 20% of the organisation.

The plan, which already has the backing of Thrive Capital founder Joshua Kushner, the brother of President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared, has been tipped to accumulate up to £3.1billion from investors. Those who invest would then be able to acquire minority, non-controlling stakes in the company, which would be valued at up to £15bn.

Infantino has given FIFA’s 211 member nations until September 19 to endorse it, warning those who do not participate would receive a smaller sum of the funds generated. The plan has already been condemned by the Premier League and UEFA, who are expected to discuss the possibility of boycotting FIFA tournaments, should the scheme go ahead.

Infantino, in a statement uploaded to social media, insisted support from 50% of FIFA’s affiliations combined with approval from the governing council would be enough to get the golden ball rolling.

He declared on Wednesday: “It’s part of a democratic process – a consultation process – and, above all, it is an opportunity but not an obligation, and, as I said, it kicks off the consultation process.”

Infantino also added: “Should neither condition be satisfied, FIFA will continue as planned with the Forward Programme 4.0… meaning approximately £7.5m ($10m) per MA [member association] for the next cycle.

“A singular and unique funding opportunity only for those Member Associations who wish to participate, with their decision to be made by September 19 2026 so we can plan ahead and with funds to be available immediately as of January 1 2027. This entity will be fully focused on one target objective; generating as much value as possible for FIFA’s Member Associations.”

In reaction, UEFA’s 55 nations are convening an emergency summit later this week to consider the prospect of a boycott. The Premier League also reposted a statement from European League to express its opposition for Infantino’s idea.

President Aleksander Ceferin had already snubbed the World Cup final this month in defiance of Donald Trump’s intervention to help convert USA’s Folarin Balogun’s one-match suspension into a suspended penalty.

Paris Saint-Germain president also lambasted the idea, saying: “Football belongs to no individual and to no institution. It belongs to the people. If FIFA were transferred into a profit-oriented corporate structure, it would lose its soul.”
