StraightforwardJet Manchester flight makes ‘pressing’ diversion after medical emergency

An easyJet flight from Manchester Airport to Copenhagen was forced to make an ‘urgent’ diversion to Newcastle Airport on Tuesday (July 28) after a passenger required urgent medical attention, according to the airline

An easyJet flight departing from Manchester Airport was forced to make an ‘urgent’ diversion due to an incident onboard.

The flight, which was bound for Copenhagen, took off as scheduled on Tuesday (July 28). However, shortly after leaving the ground, the plane had to be rerouted to Newcastle.

The swift diversion was necessitated by a passenger ‘requiring urgent medical attention’, according to easyJet. Emergency services were on hand as the flight touched down in Newcastle.

Once the passenger was safely in the hands of medics on the ground, the flight resumed its journey to Copenhagen, reports the Manchester Evening News.

An easyJet spokesperson stated: “Flight EZY2237 from Manchester to Copenhagen yesterday diverted to Newcastle, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention.

“The customer was met by medical services on arrival and the flight continued to Copenhagen. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”

A the incident comes on the same day as a Turkish Airlines flight was forced into making an unscheduled landing at Manchester Airport.

Flight THY1GJ, en route from Istanbul to Toronto, touched down around 7:30pm yesterday after circling over the North Sea, possibly jettisoning fuel to facilitate its landing, according to flight data.

Several fire engines were seen on standby before they headed towards the aircraft after it landed safely at Manchester.

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport confirmed that the aircraft had landed safely and a ‘technical issue’ had been subsequently resolved.
