‘Mob boss’ Daniel Kinahan’s extradition from Dubai to Ireland ‘intensifying’

Irish officials are preparing to extradite Daniel Kinahan, an alleged boss of the notorious Kinahan organised crime syndicate, from Dubai back to Ireland. Kinahan, now in his late 40s, was arrested in the United Arab Emirates in April following an arrest warrant issued by Irish courts for alleged serious organised crime offences.
Efforts to extradite him are ramping up after it’s believed he lost legal battles in Dubai to halt the process. Sources within the Irish authorities have emphasised that no schedule has been set for Kinahan’s return to Ireland, noting that while the legal proceedings may be over, several diplomatic steps still need to be taken to finalise the extradition plans.
Kinahan’s arrest was executed under a bilateral extradition agreement between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.

Dublin’s High Court previously identified Kinahan, who has recently resided in the UAE, as a high-ranking member of an organised crime group involved in international drug trafficking and firearms crimes.
The Kinahan cartel was embroiled in a feud with the rival Hutch crime gang in Ireland, which kicked off in 2015 and led to 18 fatalities.
In 2016, there was an assassination attempt on Daniel Kinahan’s life at a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel in Dublin.
Kinahan’s involvement in boxing sparked controversy in 2020 when heavyweight Tyson Fury expressed his gratitude to him for brokering an agreement for him to fight Anthony Joshua.

Fury declared that Kinahan was behind organising “the biggest fight in British boxing history”.
However, within weeks Fury’s camp revealed that Kinahan would no longer be handling negotiations on his behalf.
In 2022, US authorities offered a reward of up to five million dollars (4.3 million euro/£3.7 million) for Kinahan’s capture.
A Garda spokesperson said: “An Garda Síochána has been steadfast in our determination that we would pursue those allegedly involved in serious organised criminal activity, wherever they go.
“An Garda Síochána has developed many major international partnerships in our efforts to target transnational organised crime groups.
“Our relationship with the authorities in the United Arab Emirates, the Ministry of Justice at judicial level, and on a police-to-police basis, is valued.
“This relationship has been supported by the Irish Government Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration and Department of Foreign Affairs.”
