Search for lacking youngster, 5, ends in tragedy after ‘discovered lifeless in water’

A five-year-old child who was missing in Worcestershire has tragically been found dead in water.

West Mercia Police had been urgently investigating the location of the youngster who disappeared from Badsey, near Evesham, last night (July 29).

The police force confirmed that a body was sadly discovered unresponsive in the water within the Badsey area.

They were pronounced dead at the scene. Police stated they believed the “incredibly tragic incident” was the result of drowning.

The force said there were no suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for a coroner to open an inquest, reports Birmingham Live.

Out of respect for the grieving family, the sex of the child has not been disclosed.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to a report of a missing child in Badsey yesterday evening (Wednesday 29 July).

“Sadly, the child was found unresponsive in a body of water, and a short time later was pronounced dead.

“There is no third-party involvement in the child’s death, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. This is an incredibly tragic incident.

“We ask the public to avoid speculation online as this is incredibly distressing to the family and we ask that their privacy is respected at such a difficult time.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service were summoned to the area at 6.50pm and dispatched an ambulance, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service stated: “On arrival we discovered one patient, a young child.

“Ambulance staff and police worked quickly to treat the patient, but sadly, it became apparent nothing could be done to save them and they were confirmed dead at the scene.”
