Liverpool’s quest for a return to Premier League title contention this season could depend on the coming weeks of transfer activity.

Andoni Iraola has yet to implement the sort of sweeping changes some supporters would have anticipated when he initially succeeded Arne Slot this summer.

The Reds made a swift start at the beginning of the transfer window but dealings have ground to a standstill. And Daily Star Sport has examined the latest rumours as Liverpool seek to complete more deals before the window shuts.

Aston Villa’s players are said to be becoming ‘increasingly worried’ that Ezri Konsa will leave this summer. The Daily Mail has claimed Liverpool target Konsa is edging ever nearer to a move away from Villa Park, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A major obstacle in Konsa’s situation would be Villa’s rumoured £60million valuation. That sum would constitute a substantial investment for most centre-halves, especially for one who has under two years left on his deal.

It proves all the more exasperating for Liverpool, therefore, that Konsa could fulfil their requirements so perfectly. The England international is equipped to feature at centre-back or right-back.

This leaves the Reds confronting possible frustration yet again following Real Madrid beating them to the signing of Yan Diomande. Barcola was suggested as Liverpool’s backup option.

Arsenal have similarly been denied by Real after Vinicius Jr reportedly considered a move to the Emirates before agreeing to a contract renewal.

This has led them to shift their focus in the hunt for a left winger, with Barcola seemingly being their next favoured target. Mikel Arteta has already brought in Christos Tzolis in the role but is eager to bolster the position even more.
