Liverpool’s summer transfer window is finally springing into life ahead of Andoni Iraola’s first match in charge of the Reds at Anfield.

Only forward Victor Munoz had been signed so far this summer, with defender Jeremy Jacquet also linking up with the squad following his January move being finalised, but Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is set to join the Reds on an initial one-year loan deal, with a reported buy clause.

The defender’s medical is set for Sunday, ahead of Iraola stepping into the Anfield dugout for his first pre-season fixture against Monaco. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest Liverpool news.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Araujo was sealed quickly, though Spanish reports suggest he has been monitored by the club for some considerable time. Originally, it remained uncertain whether the arrangement featured a clause to purchase the defender following his one-year loan stint.

However, it has now been verified that the Reds do possess the option, rather than the obligation, to secure Araujo once his loan period concludes. He will set them back £47.1million, according to reports.

A transfer schedule has also been established, with the 27 year old defender due to arrive in Liverpool on Sunday and undergo a medical before finalising his switch.

He didn’t join the Barcelona squad that faced both Nottingham Forest and Udinese on Saturday evening during a triangular tournament. He was captured on camera departing Barcelona’s training facility and expressed gratitude to supporters who said their goodbyes.

Ferran Torres provides boost

Another deal that Liverpool are presently working on is a major pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola. Initial discussions have taken place with the Frenchman’s agents.

However, this transfer is complex and might begin to become protracted. The Reds are keen on Barcola yet it’s currently both clubs’ asking prices that are creating the problem. PSG demand £145m, Liverpool refuse to meet this figure.

An alternative option could be his teammate, Ibrahim Mbaye. The 18 year old Senegalese winger caught the eye at the World Cup and remains on the Reds’ shortlist.

Nevertheless, Liverpool’s prospects of securing one or both of these wide players could be enhanced by news that Barcelona’s Ferran Torres desires a transfer to the Parisian outfit. Araujo might not be the sole favour Barcelona do Liverpool this window as Marca reports negotiations are ongoing for World Cup winner Torres and he has told the Catalan club he desires the PSG switch.

All personal terms have been settled. Should he complete the move, it would heighten the chances of either Barcola, Mbaye, or both being offloaded, and Liverpool could strike.
