Lucy Letby’s ‘boyfriend’ physician and ‘greatest good friend’ who gave proof in homicide trial dies
The married doctor, who prosecutors said Letby was ‘infatuated’ with, later gave evidence in court against the nurse, 36, who was found guilty of murdering seven babies

A medic whom baby-killer Lucy Letby dubbed her “best friend” and “love” in notes discovered at her residence has passed away.
The married registrar subsequently testified against Letby, 36, who was convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting to kill seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
The physician, known as Doctor A during proceedings, collaborated with Letby in 2016, two years prior to Letby’s initial arrest. Throughout the inquiry, investigators discovered the nurse had referred to him as her “love” in her personal writings, and that the duo had exchanged over 1,300 Facebook messages across three months in 2016.

The Sun reports the doctor subsequently took up a position at another hospital. It’s understood the medic, who was in his 50s, had been unwell prior to his death last month.
His funeral has taken place, reports the Express. The doctor received anonymity protection during Letby’s 10-month trial in 2023. The ruling was granted to safeguard his family.
Throughout the court proceedings, prosecutors branded him Letby’s “boyfriend” and maintained the nurse was obsessed with him.

They contended she would engineer “crisis situations” by harming infants, knowing he would be amongst the doctors summoned to respond.
It also emerged that the pair embarked on day trips to London and arranged walks and meals together. Letby rejected any romantic connection and insisted they were merely close friends.
During her court case, it was revealed she referred to the doctor as “sweetie” in messages, and she was observed crying when he arrived at Manchester Crown Court to testify.
The Thirwall Inquiry in 2024 determined that the doctor had been “misled” and “maybe manipulated” by Letby, and he claimed he had been deceived into providing her with information about babies she had assaulted.
Letby is currently serving a whole-life term at Bronzefield Prison in Surrey. She continues to assert her innocence despite being convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others.
