Mason Mount harm replace emerges as Man Utd sweat over star’s newest health blow
Mason Mount was forced off with an injury during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, and the severity of the midfielder’s problem has emerged

Manchester United have been boosted by the news that Mason Mount’s injury is not as serious as first feared after the midfielder was forced off after just 20 minutes during Saturday’s 1-1 friendly draw with Paris Saint-Germain.
Mount was replaced having picked up a knock with United one goal down, being substituted for Tyler Fletcher, 10 minutes before Bryan Mbeumo scored the equaliser. Michael Carrick was left sweating over the 27-year-old’s condition after the latest injury concern in Mount’s injury-prone time at Old Trafford.
With fewer than two weeks remaining before the Red Devils kick off their Premier League campaign away to newly-promoted Hull City, Mount looked in line to play a key role having played in a deeper midfield role during pre-season so far.

Despite the initial concerns, Mount left the stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden on foot without assistance, indicating his pre-season preparations could continue.
Mount has since travelled to Ireland ahead of United’s upcoming training camp in County Kildare. He’ll be reunited with Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez, who were each granted extra rest following the World Cup.
After featuring from the start in just two of Carrick’s 17 matches in charge last term, Mount has impressed during pre-season. Operating in a deeper position, the ex-Chelsea star has delivered a string of promising displays.
Mount could feature in a revamped midfield against Hull. Summer acquisitions Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans are both in the running to start, while Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes will anticipate involvement.
United have been determined to bring in a third midfielder throughout the transfer window, but Mount’s performances could lead them to abandon those plans and concentrate on strengthening other areas. Left-back remains a position which the Red Devils are keen to bolster before deadline day on Tuesday, September 1.
Mount’s revival has also prompted former United winger Lee Sharpe to describe him as captaincy material. The 27 year old is not currently part of United’s leadership group.
“I think if he can stay fit and play the way he has done previous seasons, Mason Mount, with his experience, would always be in with a shout,” Sharpe told Goal. “I think he would not necessarily rule by fear, but rule by example.”
Mount has clocked up 72 appearances since joining United in a deal worth up to £60million in the summer of 2023. His Old Trafford career has been hampered by injuries and constant managerial changes.
Last season proved his most fruitful, however, netting three goals and registering one assist across 25 matches. Carrick will be hoping to extract even more from Mount during the 2026-27 campaign.
