Beneath the concrete jungle of New York a sinister criminal underworld is lurking where pimps murder rivals and traffic women to around the sex industry.

Despite the Big Apple’s improved reputation, inside New York’s borough of Brooklyn some women are forced to sell sex for as little as $85. The conviction of Omari “Prince” Scott, 45, has offered a snippet into the scandalous streets and how pimps control women through fear and violence.

Omari “Prince” Scott pimped multiple women at “Penn Track” in East New York, before he was sentenced to 50 years on charges of human trafficking and ordering the murder of a rival pimp. Businesses around Pennsylvania Avenue – also known as “the Blade” – have claimed women constantly flock to the streets selling sex for as little as $85.

Two women currently working on the streets have pulled back the curtain on the sinister coercion, violence and ruthlessness that the brutal sex trade operates under.

One of the anonymous women stated: “The pimp will say, ‘We building something.’ But it’s you building and him collecting.

“You think you chose him. Then you realize you gotta ask to leave, ask to eat, ask to keep some of your own money.”

During Scott’s trial it was revealed the women working as sex workers for him made around $1,000 a night. The sources speaking to the NYP stated that this was around normal for a pimp in the area.

The anonymous women added: “You gotta have a quota. You don’t make quota, you can’t come inside. You stay out there till you do, even if it’s 4 a.m. and raining.

“[The pimps] sit parked up the block watching. Not to protect you — to make sure you don’t stop, don’t talk too long, don’t pocket anything.”

The woman stated protection from the pimp can be conditional. She revealed: “If a date gets rough, you call him and maybe he comes, maybe he don’t. If it’s about money though? He comes real quick.”

During Scott’s trial, Amanda Vizcarrondo-Ortiz, 35, testified about her experience of being exploited. Vizcarrondo-Ortiz revealed while she was a sex worker she unknowingly broke the first rule of the area by walking on the sidewalk. This marked her as a “renegade” – a lady without a pimp – and led to her being maced by another woman.

According to a trial transcript from the New York Post she stated: “She maced me because her pimp told her to, because I was walking on the sidewalk and not in the middle of the street.”

Scott then found Vizcarrondo-Ortiz and told her the two of them should work together. After making the business agreement Vizcarrondo-Ortiz stated every dollar she made went into his pocket.

Testifying Vizcarrondo-Ortiz stated: “I just make the money and he collects it all.” She added: “You can’t be with a pimp … and say, ‘Oh, I’m to keep this.’

Speaking to the New York Post another woman spoke of having a similar arrangement with another pimp. She said: “He takes it right out your hand. You don’t even put it in your pocket first. If you do, that’s a problem.”

“He says it’s for ‘us’ — but somehow, he always fresh and you still wearing the same thing.” She added: “In New York … they stand in a group of 30 or 40 of them.”

“That is my protection. As far as being on the Track, I was supposed to be with no clothes and heels — naked and heels.”

Scott dictated when the women could leave the street, change clothes and even spend her money.

When Henny told Scott she wanted to stop working with him he sent her a shocking message. He wrote: “Oh, that’s the day of your funeral.” He added: “You not leaving and that aint no lie.”

Following Scott’s sentencing for sex trafficking and murder in the course of sex trafficking, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch shared her thoughts.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated: “Omari Scott was a predator of the worst kind — using violence and financial control to force victims into this work and even orchestrating the murder of a rival for encroaching on his business.”
