Liverpool have reportedly bid £50miilion to try land a new winger as their Premier League season opener is just days away.

The huge bid was made for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, who caught the eyes of many top European clubs with impressive performances for the Seagulls last season.

The 22-year-old is currently out injured and is expected to be out of action for two months, should Reds boss Andoni Iraola look for the club to put in an improved offer for the player.

According to The Athletic, who first reported Liverpool’s £50m bid, they believe Iraola’s priority is to sign a winger following the departure of club legend Mohamed Salah this summer.

Minteh scored nine goals and manage eight assists in 66 appearances last season. The Gambia international only joined Brighton from Newcastle during the summer transfer window in 2024.

Liverpool kick-off their Premier League season against Newcastle on Sunday, while Brighton start their season in Conference League action against Tromso this evening (August 20).

Brighton face a battle to keep their star players before the end of the transfer window with Man Utd also expected to go back in for one of their midfielders.

United spoke to Brighton about a potential move for Carlos Baleba last summer, only to cool their interest due to Albion’s determination to keep him.

The 22-year-old had a topsy-turvy 2025/26 campaign but the Red Devils are understood to have made a renewed push to sign the midfielder, who is currently dealing with an ankle issue.

Talks are under way between the clubs, with United reported to have offered in the region of £60million plus £5m in add-ons.
