Boffins suppose they’ve found the stays of Noah’s Ark as new ‘proof’ involves mild
For decades, geologists dismissed the boat-shaped mound as natural, but new radar scans suggest something more may lie beneath
A bizarre boat-shaped mound buried deep in the mountains of Turkey could be the remains of Noah’s Ark, if a team of Christian researchers are to be believed.
The sensational theory is based on an area of rock found known by scientists as the Durupınar Formation, which sits around 18 miles from the Bib Mount Ararat, believed by many to be the spot that the biblical vessel came to rest after the Great Flood.
For decades, the bulk of geology experts have written off that the striking boat-y as being nothing more than a freak geological formation. However, if these latest reports are to be believed, new radar scans suggest there could be far more lurking beneath the surface, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The hi-tech survey picked up strange underground anomalies and separate layers inside the mound, casting doubt on the belief that it is simply one enormous chunk of natural rock.
Dr Khosrow Bakhtar led the investigation using BakhtarRadar, a specialist imaging system developed through US Air Force research that allowed the team to peer deeper underground than ever before.
Andrew Jones, founder of Noah’s Ark Scans, said: “We believe the Durupınar Formation is the remains of Noah’s Ark, and that is exactly why we want to put it through the strongest scientific testing we can.”
The researchers have stressed that they have not yet proved the Ark is buried there, and that the results are still being examined and the team has yet to identify a clear boundary between the formation and the bedrock underneath.
However, they argue that the latest readings will allow them to choose where to carry out new drilling, and that this could be a crucial step in revealing what is hidden inside the mysterious mound.
The formation reportedly appeared after heavy rain and earthquakes washed away the surrounding mud in 1948, where it was later discovered by a Kurdish shepherd, going on to baffle experts and biblical hunters ever since.
Most geologists remain sceptical and insist Durupınar is simply an extraordinary natural rock formation, while even Jones’ team admits that suspicious radar readings alone will not necessarily prove any sort of biblical back story.
