EasyJet flight compelled into U-turn quarter-hour after medical emergency drama

An easyJet flight was forced into a rapid mid-air U-turn just 15 minutes after take-off following an urgent medical emergency onboard. Flight EZY3439 took off from Liverpool John Lennon Airport as scheduled at 6.05am today, with passengers looking forward to landing in Malta at around 10.30am local time (9.30am BST).
However, panic struck in the cabin shortly into the journey, forcing the pilot of the Airbus A320, which can carry up to 180 passengers, to turn the plane around and race back to Liverpool.
Emergency medical crews were scrambled to meet the aircraft on the tarmac as soon as it touched down.

An easyJet spokesperson told the Liverpool ECHO: “Flight EZY3439 from Liverpool to Malta this morning returned to Liverpool, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention.
“The customer was met by medical services on arrival and the flight will continue to Malta later this morning. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”
After the unwell passenger was handed over to paramedics, the jet was cleared to get back in the air, reports the Mirror.
Flight EZY3439 departed Liverpool once again at around 9.45am to complete its three-hour journey south.
