Reading Festival followers chant David Beckham’s identify as he and Victoria watch Cruz make music debut

David and Victoria Beckham were spotted at rain-soaked Reading Festival after rushing back from a £16m Amalfi Coast yacht break to watch son Cruz, 21, make his debut with The Breakers on the new Canopy stage.

David and Victoria Beckham were spotted braving the downpours at Reading Festival as they turned up to cheer on son Cruz for his big music milestone.

The proud parents jetted back from their luxury European break – after touring around the Amalfi Coast on a reported £16million yacht – to make sure they didn’t miss 21-year-old Cruz making his Reading debut with his band The Breakers on Saturday (August 29).

Cruz and the band played a 30-minute afternoon slot on the festival’s newly introduced Canopy stage from 3.25pm to 3.55pm. Despite torrential rain across the Berkshire site, David, 51, and Victoria, 52, reportedly stood at the side of the stage watching intently – with Victoria even keeping her shades on.

David’s name was chanted as he made his way to the stage and fans watched Victoria clapping at the end of every song – but noted that she didn’t sing along to the lyrics herself. One fan told the Mirror: “Victoria looked so distracted.

“Got to be sad having everyone but Brooklyn there.”

The eye witness continued: “I can’t believe it!

“I came hoping to see them and they’re actually here. It’s so nice they’ve come to support Cruz because they didn’t have to.”

Ahead of the set, Cruz posted a close-up selfie to his Instagram Story with the message: “Reading, I cannot wait.”

His festival debut comes as fans have been dubbing the Canopy stage “The Nepo Baby Stage” – and even branding Reading and Leeds “Nepo Fest” – because of the number of celebrity kids on the bill.

Cruz became the latest to take to the stage, after Liam Gallagher’s youngest son Gene, 25, played the day before with his band Villanelle. Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s son Moses performed on Friday with People I’ve Met, and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet is due to appear on Sunday (August 29).

Music academics and PR experts have warned a famous surname might open doors – but it won’t keep them open if the music isn’t good. Cruz’s appearance follows a huge year with The Breakers, including UK touring and a summer slot at Lollapalooza.

Earlier this month the band released their EP Wear & Tear, with tracks including Better Times, WANNABE, Seeing Red, Loneliest Boy, and Wear & Tear. Cruz said the record captures “a life lived” – the highs, the lows and the “learning curves”.

After Reading, Cruz and the band head to Leeds on Sunday, with six shows planned around the EP release.
