A woman has been shot by police in Times Square following a reported knifepoint robbery.
The shooting took place in the heart of New York City at 4.27pm local time, between Seventh Avenue West and 42nd and 43rd Streets, the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed.

The woman started threatening people with two knives, ABC7 reported, citing police sources.
Her condition remains unclear at this time.
The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) reached the scene at 4.26pm after receiving reports that someone had been stabbed.
Police stated the woman had knifed a man and a woman before refusing to drop the weapons when confronted by officers.
The casualties were rushed to hospital with life-threatening wounds.

Roads were closed off for police to conduct their investigation.
The public have been advised to steer clear of West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, an area typically heaving with tourists soaking up Time Square’s famous illuminated billboards.
