Manchester United have completed a transfer hours after the summer window slammed shut.
The Red Devils announced that Chido Obi has agreed to a season-long loan move to Willem II, pending registration. Despite the cut-off for English clubs to finalise their summer acquisitions being 11pm on Tuesday, Dutch clubs had until midnight on Wednesday to wrap up their dealings.
A full day after England’s summer deadline, United revealed that 18-year-old Chido had agreed to join Eredivisie Willem II on loan for the summer, where he expects to play more regularly in senior football after his time at Old Trafford stalled.

The Danish striker joined United from Arsenal in the winter of 2025, alongside Ayden Heaven, having rejected the chance to remain in north London.
He made his United debut in February 2025 against Tottenham and has clocked up a total of eight appearances for the first team due to the Red Devils’ enduring injuries and lack of form among their first-team options.
However, Obi spent the entirety of last season with the Under-21s, netting 15 goals in 31 matches, having failed to convince he was ready for more first-team minutes, seeing Michael Carrick green-light his loan exit.
Obi has joined Eredivisie side Willem II on loan
Chido is the latest player to depart United on loan in what has been a bustling summer of activity in the academy. Jack Moorhouse agreed to a loan move to Dundee on transfer deadline day, with his temporary departure confirmed on Wednesday evening.
Among other academy players who have exited the club on loan this summer are Ethan Wheatley, Jacob Devaney and Jayce Fitzgerald.
There have also been numerous sales of academy graduates this summer. Toby Collyer concluded his stint at Old Trafford with a switch to West Brom that could see United receive up to £7.6million, while promising young goalkeeper Radek Vitek joined promotion-hopeful Middlesbrough in a deal potentially worth up to £14m.
A total of 26 players departed United this summer, either on a permanent or temporary basis. United had aimed to raise more funds through player sales this summer but once again found it challenging to shift those they consider unnecessary at Old Trafford.
