A woman dubbed as a “Black Widow” allegedly tried to murder an older man she met online by lacing his booze with drugs. Samantha Adams, 39, is accused of attempting to kill her 69-year-old lover after meeting him on a dating app, according to Florida’s Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, who went by the alias “Nala”, had reportedly been in a transactional relationship with the man for several months after he allegedly paid her for sex.

“We refer to her as a black widow,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a news release. “The longer they knew each other, the more profound she became with her requests.”

Things allegedly turned sinister on August 17 when the pair got into a furious row over a car the man had bought for her at his home in Haines City, near Orlando.

Following the argument, Adams went into the kitchen with her handbag before returning with two glasses of whiskey, police claim.

The man knocked back his drink before the pair got intimate, only for Adams to allegedly halt the session and demand $1,000 (£735) to carry on. When he refused, she stormed out, reports the Mail.

Later that night, the man passed out and was rushed to hospital. Doctors said he had suffered a near-fatal overdose of benzodiazepine – a powerful prescription tranquiliser often sold under the brand name Xanax.

According to police, he then responded: “I don’t have any medicine like that. I don’t take any medicine like that.”

Sheriff Judd said: “That’s how our investigation led to her. She tried to kill him. She tried to overdose him. She tried to extort him.”

The man told detectives he had felt strangely woozy after drinking with Adams on previous occasions. Once, he said he collapsed in her house after just one drink.

On another occasion, he claimed he crashed into a police car after leaving her home because he felt inexplicably drowsy behind the wheel.

Detectives launched an investigation on August 20 and arrested Adams seven days later at a shopping centre after setting up a trap where she thought she was meeting the alleged victim. Officers boxed in her car and put her in handcuffs.

When searched, officers allegedly found a prescription pill bottle in someone else’s name stuffed with a mix of prescription narcotics, including hydrocodone, oxycodone, Sertraline, Adderall and a partial Xanax pill.

The suspect has now been hit with several charges including second-degree attempted murder, tampering with evidence, offering to commit prostitution and multiple drug possession offences.

She is currently being held in Polk County Jail on a $42,500 (£31,274) bond. Police now fear there could be more victims who have fallen prey to the scheme.

Sheriff Judd added: “Her motivation is money, and as we have seen with this case, she is willing to go to great lengths to get money – including murder.”
