Ferrari star suffers big Italian GP crash as race pink flagged and followers in tears
A Ferrari star suffered a major crash in the Italian Grand Prix after losing control of his car and smashing into the tyre wall at worrying speed, causing a red flag
Charles Leclerc suffered a major crash at Monza as the Italian Grand Prix was red flagged.
The Monegasque driver crashed out of the race on the second lap after losing control of his Ferrari at the tail end of the Parabolica. Leclerc exited the car and appeared to be okay; however, the 28-year-old was also seemingly left winded by the impact with the tyre barrier.
The Ferrari slammed sideways into the tyre wall after the rear of Leclerc’s car got away from him. Leclerc attempted to correct the slide but instead overcorrected the movement and raced off through the gravel trap at speed.
Very soon after the crash, the red flag was waved so Leclerc’s car could be recovered from the gravel trap of the fast-paced corner and so repairs could be made to the tyre wall.
The race is yet to resume, and action might not resume before 2:30pm BST as repairs remain ongoing. No restart time has been announced.
It has been a nightmare start for the Prancing Horse at their home Grand Prix after Lewis Hamilton dropped to P10 after he claimed over the radio that he was pushed off the track by Leclerc.
The Brit is expected to restart the race in P8 after regaining positions, but the Tifosi were left in tears by one of the worst starts imaginable for the team.
