Dramatic video captured the moment police officers found a survivor in the mangled wreckage of a car after an Amazon cargo jet career off the runway and ploughed into it.

Cops can be seen inspecting the devastating scene in Miami just moments after the Boeing 767 barreled off the runway at 129 mph, smashed into multiple vehicles and burst into flames sending thick smoke into the air. At least five people were killed.

In footage shared on social media, one stunned officer can be heard shouting: “We’ve got one breathing!” Another emergency responder shouts: “He’s alive!” before the first speaker yells: “e’s alive, he’s breathing!”

The clips shows a police officer in a brown Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office uniform approaching the vehicle. At one point, someone can be heard asking: “Is there anyone else in there?”

Debris from vehicles can be seen strewn across a grassy area while ambulances and other damaged vehicles are in shot.

The Prime Air plane, which is operated by 21 Air, can be seen being doused in water by fire crews, while large skid marks are visible in the grass leading up to where it came to a halt.

It comes after a probe was launched to establish why the jet careered off the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators are focusing on whether the plane – from San Juan, Puerto Rico – touched down too late to stop safely. Video of the landing appears to show the doomed aircraft remaining airborne well down the runway.

The landing zone is generally within the first 3,000 feet of the runway. Investigators also expected to check whether tailwinds contributed to the disaster as Sunday was a stormy day in South Florida, the New York Post reports.

More 200 firefighters rushed to the scene of the horror, which happened at 1.55pm on Sunday. An eyewitness said onlookers feared the jet would explode after it smashed across a road used by businesses and warehouse workers.

Truck driver Romiersky Rodriguez told local media: “Everything just went chaotic as soon as the plane fell, people all around, smoke everywhere, it’s a horrific experience. I couldn’t get close enough because we were scared that the plane was going to blow up.”

As well as the five fatalities, three people were critically wounded and two others taken to hospital with less serious injuries, Miami-Dade County officials said during a press conference.

One clip shared by local broadcaster NBC 6 News appeared to show the enormous plane had ploughed into the edge of a busy carriageway where motorists were travelling. Some seemed to be performing U-turns to steer clear of the incident.

Two lorries were positioned next to the aircraft, which was producing heavy smoke but remained in one piece.

A map monitoring the aircraft’s movements seems to indicate that the plane carried on straight past the runway’s end, and into a green area at the other side.

It remains unclear why the plane was unable to stop, but data from the tracking site Flightradar24 shows the aircraft was going nearly 130 miles per hour when it left the unusable portion of the runway, CNN reports.

In addition, according to a review of air traffic control audio by CNN, the pilots did not declare an emergency before landing.

In a statement, a spokesperson for 21 Air, the aircraft’s owner said: “We are devastated by the accident involving one of our aircraft in Miami today. Our deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives.

“Our immediate priorities are supporting those affected, assisting the authorities, and ensuring that accurate information is communicated as it becomes available.

“We are cooperating fully with the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration, and local authorities. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation.”

Local Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said: “My heart is with all of the families who were affected and to everyone who is grieving. We’re also praying for the injured and their families.”
