Tango to convey again fan favorite drink for first time in 15 years

The nostalgic drink left our shelves in 2012 but is now making a return for a limited time

Tango is bringing back one of its fan favourites

Tango have resurrected their cult aerosol-powered drink after a survey revealed three quarters of nostalgic Brits have scoured the internet for retro snacks and drinks from the noughties.

Turbo Tango is making a comeback as a whopping 73% of Gen Z-ers admit they’ve scoured social media for retro or discontinued snacks and drinks from the 2000s or 2010s.

The nostalgia bug has bitten Millennials too, as a staggering 89% admit they think fondly of discontinued food and drinks from their childhood.

The beverage, claimed to be the world’s first aerosol soft drink, is making a highly anticipated return this month for an ultra-limited run after years of petitions, YouTube videos and social media threads begging for its comeback.

First launched in 2011 Turbo Tango, an aerosol-powered can that dispenses Tango as an edible foamy spray, achieved instant cult status with Millennials but only lasted until 2012 before being discontinued.

Tango is bringing the fan-favourite back with only 2,000 cans up for grabs via social media creator-led drops.

This gives Millennials the chance to relive a taste of their youth and Gen Z the opportunity to discover a 2010s cult classic for the very first time.

The Tango survey revealed that it’s not just food and drink that’s got Gen Z-ers harking back to the early years of the 21st century, but tech too.

A wistful 46% of Gen Z-ers yearn for phones that come with chargers and headphones in the box, topping a list of things they want to come back from the 2010s.

Nipping at its heels with 40% is the iPod, followed by 3D movies (26%) and 20% who pine for wearing high heels on a night out.

Though the younger generation of Brits might be embracing 2010s culture in 2026, Tango’s research also highlights the everyday habits of Millennial life that can stay in the past.

Topping the leaderboard of things that can stay in the 2010s is signing in and out of instant messenger to get someone’s attention (31%).

‘Poking’ people on social media was next on the list with 30% followed by waiting weeks for holiday photos to be developed and surprising a friend at their house without messaging first (both 29%).

Dave Laidler, Brand Director at Carlsberg Britvic, said: “Fifteen years ago, we all had different music tastes, different hairstyles and, let’s be honest, some questionable fashion choices.

“We may look back and cringe at parts of the 2010s but some things are worth bringing back.

“We’ve seen the online petitions, fan chatter and the demand for a return build over the years and the enthusiasm for Turbo Tango has never faded.

“As we bring back ‘You Know When You’ve Been Tango’d’ across a number of different touchpoints this summer, we’re excited to introduce the cult classic that is Turbo Tango to a whole new generation.

“While also giving the fans who remember it the chance to enjoy a taste of nostalgia all over again.

“2011 called and we answered.”

With only a limited run of Turbo Tango available, once they’re gone, they’re gone.
