Trump’s livid five-word meltdown at Marine One pilot revealed by lipreader

The US President was filmed appearing to berate a Marine One pilot after landing at the White House after a weekend trip to his golf club

Donald Trump was caught on camera appearing to snap at a Marine One pilot as he returned to the White House – and now a lip reader has revealed what he said during the angry outburst.

The incident happened on Monday (September 7) as Trump arrived back from a weekend trip to his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, USA. Footage of the tense exchange quickly went viral.

In the clip, the US President can be seen animatedly gesturing as he speaks to the helicopter crew, repeatedly chopping his hand downwards as if making a point, before abruptly turning away.

Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Mirror US that Trump’s mouth is not visible enough during the first 10 seconds of the outburst to figure out what he’s saying.

However, at around 12 seconds, she says the president turns his head and appears to say: “That’s enough for me today”.

“As he then turns to leave, he appears to add: ‘We’re done,'” Nicola claimed.

Trump then abruptly turned and grabbed the handrails of the small staircase as he made his way down the aircraft’s steps. He walked past two marines positioned on either side of the stairs but failed to return his customary salute, the Mirror US reported.

Instead, Trump disregarded the marines and continued walking, his gaze fixed downward. Body language expert Judi James noted that the president appeared “moody” throughout the incident.

She said: “Trump dramatically fails to salute the waiting marines but it’s the emotional sandcastle that builds to that moment of apparent inattention that is interesting. He walks away from the helicopter looking moody and pre-occupied.

“His shoulders are down and although he thinks to pull his jacket together it doesn’t close or appear able to fasten. The conversation with presumably the pilot shows non-verbal signs that could be translated as irritation or anger, although without Trump’s facial expression being visible it would be hard to get the whole story from balancing his cluster signals.

“When a ‘conversation’ is as animated and a point made as repetitively as this you would expect to see conciliatory signals like a grin or a final friendly wave to balance the hand gestures but there’s no apparent sign of any smile beneath the cap as Trump turns here.”

The body language expert suggested Trump’s hand movements hinted he may have been grumbling about how the helicopter came into land.

She told the Mirror US: “His gestures appear to imply a discussion about the landing as he ‘hits’ his flat hand downward several times in mid-air. He seems to point to the pilot first to personalise the message before that hand comes down two or three times in a quick, staccato movement.

“At one point he seems about to turn slightly before going back to make the point again with the same flattened hand gesture, the sharpness of which has probably led to the speculation that this was an angry then a pre-occupied mood.”
