Woman stabbed to demise inside Lidl retailer as attacker ‘knifed her at checkout’
A suspect allegedly stormed a Lidl store in Germany before stabbing a woman to death at the checkout. Two people intervened and beat the attacker but it was too late
A woman has been stabbed to death inside in front of horrified shoppers inside a Lidl supermarket.
Emergency services were called to the incident at 3.45pm after the stabbing unfolded at the checkout area. Two people are said to have tried to intervene and help the woman at the Ratzeburg store in Germany after witnessing her being attacked by the suspect.
The two hero builders reportedly fought the perpetrator and hit him with bottles before slamming him to the ground, reports Bild. They eventually managed to overpower the suspected knifeman. The woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Lübeck police confirmed that “a suspect has been seriously injured” and is recovering from his injuries in hospital. Police said a 44-year-old German man is accused of carrying out the horror attack.
The incident is believed to have happened in front of around 20 customers inside the store, with one witness telling German news outlet Kieler Nachrichten he did not think the suspect was known to the victim.
A murder investigation has now been launched by local police and the public prosecutor’s office.
The Lidl has been sealed off and police said there is no danger to the public.
It comes as a 39-year-old man has been arrested at the funeral of one of the five men who lost their lives in a head-on collision with police on the A66, a crash that also claimed the lives of two armed officers.
Cleveland Police confirmed the arrest at the funeral on Wednesday. The Teesside Crematorium service for 17-year-old Cole Worthy was disrupted and police responded to reports of a disturbance inside.
Superintendent John Wrintmore stated: “At around 12.30pm on Wednesday September 9, police swiftly attended to Teesside Crematorium following reports of a disturbance during a service taking place inside. A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been taken to police custody. The service has since resumed. Officers will be in the area to provide reassurance.”
