Martin Brundle pressured to chop Jose Mourinho interview in awkward Spanish GP gridwalk
Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle was forced to cut short his interview with Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho during his Spanish Grand Prix gridwalk as the national anthem began to play

Martin Brundle was forced to abruptly halt his chat with Jose Mourinho during his grid walk ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix in an awkward moment for the broadcaster.
The Sky Sports pundit, with seconds left in his segment, spotted the Real Madrid manager and went for quick word – but had to find himself cutting off the interview after a brief exchange.
After being congratulated on Los Blancos’ triumph over Rayo Vallecano on Saturday evening, Mourinho expressed his gratitude to Brundle and revealed his hopes of attending the new Portuguese Grand Prix in his native country next year.

When quizzed about this fresh Madrid circuit, situated adjacent to the club’s Valdebebas training complex, Mourinho started to respond. He said: “This is right next to where I work, to my training ground. I pass here every day and I saw the evolution of the track.
“So it meant something for us. And I drove in here, it’s very interesting…” However, the manager was interrupted before he could complete his response. The drivers had already assembled for the national anthem which commenced while Mourinho was mid-sentence.
The Sky broadcast was obliged to switch to the anthem as the music started, prompting Brundle to simply declare: “National anthem,” before withdrawing the microphone from his guest.
Mourinho was present alongside several of his squad members who were also savouring some leisure time at the Formula One event. Standing beside Mourinho during his exchange with Brundle was a cluster of players including centre-backs Eder Militao and Denzel Dumfries, plus another of their summer acquisitions in teenage prodigy Yan Diomande, reports the Express.
Earlier during the grid walk, Brundle had chatted with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, as well as England’s World Cup star Jude Bellingham who was in attendance with his brother, Jobe, a player for Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
However, despite posing several questions to Jude, Brundle didn’t engage with Jobe at all, a fact that didn’t escape the notice of fans tuning in from home.
“Massive snub from Martin Brundle for Jobe Bellingham on the grid walk – this is anti-Bundesliga discrimination,” quipped one fan online. Another posted: “Love how Brundle desperately wanted to talk with Jude Bellingham but completely ignored his brother Jobe standing beside him.”
