Tourist dies after clinging to rocks then falling 80 metres down sheer cliff face

A tourist’s remains are being repatriated to Australia after a fata fall from a notoriously steep cliff.
Brianna Cronin, 29, from Australia was solo travelling when she plummeted from a cliff at the famous Kelingking Beach in Bali, Indonesia on Saturday, September 12.
She clung to a sheer rock face before falling 80 metres to the beach below.
The rock formation, which resembles a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex, has become one of Bali’s most recognisable landmarks. It is known for its steep cliff face and jagged rocks.
Ms Cronin was exploring the rock formation when she slipped on loose rock and became stuck on the southern side of the cliff, unable to get back to the track and too high to descend to the beach.
She was then spotted by another tourist who alerted one of the local lifeguards who monitor the beach below.
Planning was underway to rescue Ms Cronin when she fell a second time. She hit the sand, suffering multiple fractures from the fall down the rocky cliff.
Ms Cronin died at the scene.
The track to the beach has previously been called a ‘”death trap” and an “accident waiting to happen,” reports the Mail.
“The views are spectacular but it is downright dangerous and irresponsibly managed,” one visitor wrote on Tripadvisor in 2019.
Half of the path is described as “sheer, vertical drops” The visitor wrote that is requires “climbing, hanging, and holding on to broken side rails made literally of sticks and bamboo”.
A metal framework for a large elevator between the top of the cliff and beach was constructed in recent years, but called off in 2025 following concerns over the impact to nature and increased tourist numbers.
Ms Cronin was carried back up the cliff by rescuers to an ambulance waiting at the top. An earlier attempt to remove her body by boat had to be abandoned due to large and dangerous swells.
