A man has avoided being sentenced to prison despite being caught with hundreds of child abuse images, including hundreds classified in the most serious category.
Ashraful Islam, 21, of Chippenham, admitted taking indecent images of children and voyeurism when he appeared before magistrates last Friday (September 10).
He received a 26-month prison term suspended for three years, while a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) was imposed for 10 years. Islam was detained in connection with an unrelated matter in March 2026.
Officers seized his mobile phone, and during examination, a substantial number of child abuse images were discovered, including nearly 350 pictures classified as category A – showing the most severe form of child abuse, reports Gloucestershire Live.
Additionally, images depicting ‘upskirting’ of schoolgirls were also uncovered on Islam’s device.
In police footage capturing Islam’s arrest, when asked by an officer whether he needed to collect anything for the police station, Islam responded “I really need to put my uni work in, otherwise I fail.”
Det Con Will Saunders of Wiltshire Police said: “Islam was found in possession of hundreds of images of child abuse. Each of these images represents a real victim who has suffered serious, life changing abuse and those who view, possess, or share such material are contributing to that harm.
“I’d like to thank the officers who worked on this case particularly the digital forensics unit whose hard work allowed us to uncover a true picture of his offending.”
In addition to the custodial sentence and SHPO that has been imposed, Islam is also required to pay a £228 surcharge and complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
