Three people have been tragically killed with more injured after a gunman stormed a school before reportedly firing bullets at children.
Two of the victims were 14-year-old students, Banga mayor Albert Palencia told the BBC. The 16-year-old gunman is among the dead, with four more injured in a critical condition.
The incident happened in the Philippines on Friday afternoon at Banga National High School in South Cotabato, in Mindanao province. The identities of the shooter and the victims have not been confirmed.The Department of Education said in a statement that it was “deeply concerned by the reported shooting incident”.

“Our immediate priority is the safety and well-being of our learners, teachers and school personnel,” the statement said, adding it was coordinating with authorities to verify the incident.
“We urge everyone to remain calm and refrain from sharing unverified information as authorities continue their investigation.”
Mayor Palencia told Reuters that the gunman urged friends to go home on Friday “because after lunch, [he would] be executing [his] plan”. “His friends laughed because the shooter was a known joker,” Palencia said.

“After lunch, he started shooting students. He hit 10 students before killing himself.” This is the third deadly school shooting in the Philippines since June this year.
School has been suspended “in all levels in the entire municipality of Banga” following the shooting, the Banga disaster management authorities said in a statement.
The Philippine Red Cross has been pictured at the site as well as police, local reports suggest.
In June, three students were killed and more were injured after their peers opened fire at a high school in central Philippines. Investigators believed the deadly shooting had been motivated by a “grudge” over bullying.
