Sicko cop responsible of a number of rapes and intercourse assaults throughout horror 17-year crime spree
Former Police Scotland sergeant Campbell Petrie, 50, has been found guilty of a catalogue of sex crimes against two women over 17 years, with the judge saying the crimes’ gravity “cannot be overstated”

A former Police Scotland officer has been convicted of a catalogue of sex crimes, including two counts of rape, committed against two women over a 17-year period.
Campbell Petrie, 50, a former sergeant, was found guilty of nine charges involving physical and sexual abuse between 2006 and 2023 following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow. The convictions included two counts of rape, indecent assault and assault with intent to rape.
Jurors also heard evidence of violent assaults “to injury and danger of life”, with Petrie choking both women by grabbing their throats and restricting their breathing. The court reportedly heard Petrie met the first woman in a queue in a Tesco supermarket in Glasgow’s Springburn when he was on shift.

He said he “immediately found her quite attractive”. They stayed in contact after she later went to see him at the city’s Baird Street station.
The relationship began well, the trial heard, but Petrie soon “started calling the woman names”. She told the court: “He wanted me to be a skinny blonde.”
She alleged she woke up to find Petrie having sex with her, the BBC reported. Petrie denied it, saying he found the claim “absolutely sickening, devastating”.
Petrie also refuted claims he was overly physical, insisting anything he did was with “affection”. He told jurors: “There was never any time she was forced to do anything.
“She was fully consenting.” Jurors heard it was initially “all very pleasant” between the pair, but the woman said Petrie did not like her working with men.
The trial also heard Petrie hounded her at a friend’s home despite being warned to stay away – behaviour prosecutors branded “sinister” as he allegedly loitered at the back of the property in the dark, as per the BBC. The second victim, a fellow police colleague, described extreme coercive control, stalking and being forced onto weighing scales.

She told the court she was raped in a leisure centre changing room, which Petrie denied, saying: “That never took place at all in the swimming baths, there or anywhere public.” Petrie claimed the similarity in the two women’s accounts was “almost too convenient”.
The case has sparked fury over how long Petrie remained in uniform. One victim reported him in 2009 and he was arrested and held for five hours, but released.
He stayed in the force, only being suspended in December 2023 after further rape allegations. Petrie was also allowed to retire in December 2025 while still suspended and awaiting trial.
Petrie denied the accusations and said he had been left “absolutely humiliated”. After the verdict, Judge Alistair Watson remanded him in custody and told him: “the gravity of the crimes committed cannot be overstated”.
He is due to be sentenced next month. Det Supt Adam Brown said: “Our thoughts are very much with the victims in this case and I commend their strength in reporting these crimes and bringing Campbell Petrie to justice.”
He added: “I want to reassure the public we will identify and investigate these officers whether they are serving or retired… Petrie will now face the consequences of his actions.”
The Scottish Government said vetting will be continuously reviewed under the Police (Ethics, Conduct and Scrutiny) (Scotland) Act, and the Scottish Police Authority is expected to seek forfeiture of Petrie’s pension.
