More than half of Brits say they’d eat more protein if they could afford it but find it too expensive, according to a survey.

A health-conscious 51% of Brits are looking to pack in the protein in their daily diets but admit the cost is the main barrier.

Once the reserve of gym bros and bunnies, the interest in high-protein meals has seen Google searches surge in this past year, as people look to up their protein game.

Lidl says it’s found a way to provide at least 20% more protein than traditional meat options, without breaking the bank thanks to hybrid meat options.

Its new range, claimed to be the first of its kind, combines British meat and pea protein in its meals with prices starting at just £1.99.

The new range, which is available now, is part of Lidl’s commitment to increase plant-based options to 25% of its total protein offering by 2030.

Richard Bourns at Lidl GB, said: “Demand for high-protein products is soaring, but cost often remains the main barrier for shoppers.
