Man battered by brutal gang of monkeys after being ambushed outdoors native pub
The victim suffered a series of deep cuts to his hands as he tried to fend off the crazed gang of apes, feared to be responsible for 900 incidents in the past year alone

A man who was brutally attacked outside his local pub is the latest victim of a vicious monkey gang that has been terrorising a town.
The primate posse, who are known by desperate officials as Troop T1, have been involved in a whopping 900 incidents over the last year alone and have left residents of the leafy Japanese town of Yugawara scared to leave their homes.
Troop T1’s latest victim, an unnamed man in his forties, was ambushed outside his local boozer at around 7am by a dozen of the crazed apes.
His hands were bitten multiple times before he managed to make an escape. He required treatment in hospital as a result of the brutal attack.

The troop’s newfound notoriety follows a surge in bold monkey attacks in the area, as more and more are finding their way further into the town.
Local police have reported over 900 incidents of intimidating or aggressive behaviour from the animals since 2025, with one farmer intimidated by a similar group while harvesting melons.
Another local in his eighties told local media outlets: “I usually do some vegetable gardening, but I don’t do it anymore. Because the monkeys come…”

Yugawara is usually a popular hotspot in the centre of Japan, and relies heavily on incoming tourists enjoying its naturally occurring hot springs.
This means the rise in monkey business is a cause for concern amongst the locals, especially as the town has a great deal of elderly people mingling with the soon-to-arrive tourists.
As it stands, experts are not entirely sure what’s giving these monkeys their confidence.

Mieko Seino, who works for the Primatological Society of Japan said: “They are fed by tourists and then look for empty houses to give birth in, which will only make the problem worse.”
The city is currently awaiting permission from the government to crack down on the monkeys, hoping to curb any new births by capturing all the male monkeys they can.
Yugawara is not the first city to be inundated with ape attacks. In 2022 the western city of Yamaguchi saw 60 such incidents in just three weeks, as monkeys were breaking into houses and flats and attacking the inhabitants.
Luckily these attacks were limited to just the one monkey, and authorities quickly tracked it down after urging people to keep their windows and doors shut.
