Mikel Arteta is set for a new contract at Arsenal
Mikel Arteta is said to have agreed a deal with Arsenal for a new contract including a whopping pay rise after winning the Premier League.
The Spanish coach ended the Gunners’ 22-year wait for a league title and his own six-year trophy drought when he led them to glory in May. But his existing agreement in north London is due to expire at the conclusion of the current season.
However, fresh terms between the 44-year-old boss and the club have been settled, and he is poised to sign a new contract, as per the BBC. He is already the league’s best paid manager, earning up to £15million annually. But his new terms are expected to include a substantial pay increase from his current £10m-per-year deal, which includes an extra £5m in bonuses.

Only Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid is thought to earn more, with the highest-paid club manager in Europe said to earn an estimated £26m-a-year.
The duration of Arteta’s contract remains uncertain, but it’s thought it will extend Arteta’s tenure, who took up the managerial role in 2019, into his tenth year of service, reports the Mirror.
Last week, Arteta was quizzed about contract discussions with the club. He responded: “They [the fans] don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.”
Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke also made it clear at the beginning of June that the club would do everything possible to ensure Arteta stayed in north London.
Shortly after the Gunners clinched the Premier League, the American stated: “Keeping Mikel around is [an] utmost priority. I think the good news for Arsenal fans worldwide is he’s enjoying the project.
“He’s enjoying being here and from his time as a player all the way up until now, he’s an Arsenal man through and through.”
He also added: “If there is a singular person you can trace this all back to, I’m going to give 100% credit to Mikel, his staff and the players.
“Those are the ones. As much as Mikel is putting together our tactics, the players have got to go play the games, they’ve got to go and win for you.”
Last year, Arsenal brought their drought-ending 22-year wait for a league crown to a close and came within a penalty shootout of claiming Champions League glory. They also reached the League Cup final, only to fall 2-0 to Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.
The north London outfit have made an impressive start to the fresh season, triumphing in all bar one of their fixtures across all competitions. Their perfect run came to an abrupt halt last weekend when Brighton and Hove Albion pulled off a stunning 3-0 triumph on the South Coast.
