One priest has been killed and more people rushed to hospital after a suspect went on a stabbing spree inside a historic Abbey.
The suspect is believed to have used a “sharp object” in the attack at the Benedictine Abbey in Jaroslaw, Poland, on Thursday. Unofficial reports state the victims are in a serious conditions. The alleged assailant has reportedly been detained and investigations are ongoing at the scene.
Local newspaper Gazeta Jarosławska reported: “Attack with a sharp object in Jarosław. Five people injured, including priests. An attack involving a sharp object took place at the Benedictine Abbey. Five injured individuals were taken to the hospital; unofficial reports indicate that several are in serious condition. The perpetrator has been detained. Operations at the scene are ongoing.”

Authorities have reported that the suspect is a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen who allegedly attacked four men and one woman with a knife. Three men are reportedly in life-threatening conditions.
Staff Sergeant Anna Długosz from the District Police Headquarters in Jarosław said: ” Today, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police officers received a report that a Ukrainian citizen had attacked a man with a knife on the premises of the Jarosław Abbey, i.e. on Benedyktyńska Street in Jarosław.”
Upon arrival, officers found a total of five people had been injured. According to Interia, the injured included three priests and two laypeople. One priest has now died.
“Witnesses are being interviewed at the scene, an inspection is underway, and we are establishing all the circumstances of the incident,” Staff Sergeant Długosz added.
Jarosław Mayor Marcin Nazarewicz told Interia: “The crisis management team has now informed schools, offices, and parishes that such an incident occurred and that they should be more vigilant about who enters the buildings.
“According to the information I received from the services, three priests and two lay people were injured. The attack took place in a church, so there are eyewitnesses to the entire incident.”
According to the outlet, a Ukrainian passport was found on the detained man.
