Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been slammed for behaviour “akin to blackmail” by a leading royal expert. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to Britain last month alongside their youngsters Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five.
Following the pair’s homecoming, the Home Office continues to conduct a review regarding whether they should receive state-funded security. This represents something Harry has battled for repeatedly since stepping down from royal duties in 2020 and losing his armed police protection.
While the review’s conclusion remains unknown, associates of the duo have allegedly indicated that should Harry and Meghan be denied taxpayer-funded police protection, they’ll relocate back to America.

This was reported by the Mail’s Editor at Large Alison Boshoff. The revelation triggered outrage on the most recent Palace Confidential podcast, with Diary Editor Richard Eden declaring that such action would be “akin to blackmail”.
He said: “My goodness, that makes the whole thing seem like… some sort of blackmail. The implications of this are massive because if they get it, what that then means is Harry and Meghan can come and go, and they’ll still be getting police protection, and also they can say that they want it in America.
“So those hard-pressed taxpayers in the US might find that they’re having to pay for security too. So it could ease any money worries that they have.

“Harry and Meghan would be absolutely thrilled. They’d have these huge costs paid for by someone else.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been without taxpayer-funded protection since 2020, following their decision to step back from royal duties and relocate to America, reports the Express. The pair now rely on their own privately-funded security detail for protection during public outings.
Harry and Meghan have kept their residential address under wraps due to safety concerns, and even pulled Archie and Lilibet out of their initial British school after concluding the daily commute route presented security risks. This comes after the couple’s inner circle have come to their defense amid growing scrutiny.
Ashley Hansen, global press secretary to the duke and duchess and the head of communications for Archewell, opened up about her bosses’ support when she had to take some extended time off for a serious surgery. She told US Weekly: “When I told them, I was met with the kind of concern and care a parent would express if it were their own child,
“I was asked what I needed, how and if they could help, and told to take as much time as I needed.” Hansen reportedly said Harry and Meghan sent flowers and care packages, “but most profoundly to me, Meghan would personally reach out to my husband daily to make sure that we both were OK and had support”.
