WWE legend dies after well being went ‘downhill quickly’ as tributes paid

A famous WWE fan known for his iconic sign-holding has died as wrestling legends pay tribute. Rick Achberger – known to the WWE universe as ‘Sign Guy’ – passed away yesterday (September 27) after his health deteriorated “rapidly”.
WWE’s head of creative Triple H broke the news on X, writing: “Saddened to hear of the death of Rick Achberger, known to the WWE Universe as ‘Sign Guy.’
“For decades, Rick was a fixture at events holding a sign that expressed exactly how he felt about you that given evening. He will be missed by the entire @WWE family. We send condolences to his family and friends.”

Triple H included two photos in the post which captured Sign Guy doing what made him such a memorable part of the show.
One of the snaps showed Triple H together with Achberger during the former’s run as WWE champion. The other showed Achberger holding a sign with a toilet seat alongside Triple H’s picture and the words: “HHH IS C**P”.
Achberger was among one of the best-known WWE faces outside the ring. His outfit of a blue workman’s shirt, red hat and plain black-and-white signs often meant the cameras were on him.
His outfit soon became a regular sight
The fan was well-known enough for several WWE superstars to make a guest appearance when he played Deal or No Deal in 2007.
Wrestling podcaster Lance Peterson wrote: “It’s with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of WWE Sign Guy Rick Achberger…
“He was an absolutely great guy and loved talking with fans at the shows. He tackled some health problems a couple of years ago, but last month began to go downhill rapidly. Rest in peace.”
“The original green shirt guy. I saw him so many times watching back in the day,” wrote a fan under Peterson’s post.
Another chimed: “He was such a wonderful kind soul in a world where more of that is needed for sure! He was so full of life and energy! My heart goes out to all his family and friends!”
