Ian Holloway’s whole ‘useless man strolling’ rant IN FULL as he loses the plot in mad press convention

Iconic football manager Ian Hollway had a minor meltdown during an interview ahead of his team Swindon’s game against Rochdale on Saturday. Hollway’s side have only won three of their eight league games so far this season and currently sit 12th in League Two.

And in a rare moment of self-awareness for a football manager, Holloway admitted that he was a “Dead. Man. Walking,” while thumping his chest. The bizarre rant and clips of it have gone viral on social media, with many claiming he’s “lost it” and needs to “give up” before it “gets worse”.

But the entire rant, given to BBC Radio Wiltshire and the Swindon Advertiser, which went on for several minutes, was probably as open and honest as a manager can be – so we’ve published the entire thing in full.

Ian Holloway’s mad rant in full:

“DMW. Dead Man Walking. That’s how it feels. But deep down I know a lot more than that, don’t I? I know what I’ve done. I know where I am. I know the problems I’ve got here.

I’ve tried to explain them openly and honestly to everybody. Oh my goodness me. The only effect is on them. It’s not me. It’s on them. And for them to have a chance, boy, oh boy, don’t we need something to go right immediately. Because if it doesn’t, I’ll be cheering them on and then I’m not sure how many more will.

I believe they need to know right now. And that’s what I’m trying to do. Quite simple. I don’t come here for an argument. But I have to stand up for what I think my team needs, deserves and should have anyway. So I’m sorry we haven’t won every game. We’ve got 11 points on the board. We wanted a lot more. We’ve got 10 at home, one away and the away form needs to change. But this weekend, good gracious me, this is going to test all of us. From start to finish.

I think it’s all of us because it’s there all the time. I think it’s all of us. Every manager here has ended up the same way. I’ve walked longer and further than most of them, but you know, wow, Ninth, 12th, look at the injuries. Oh my God, where are we? Whoa, where’s the understanding? For the lads who just come in, where are we? Inwood’s still out on international duty, so he’s another one on there. Don’t forget him. So it’s a tough, tough job.

I’m not the only dead man, am I? The owner’s a dead man walking as well, and that overcomplicates everything here, doesn’t it? Come on. Right. And wow, it’s just amazing. And then that feeds down onto the pitch, right?

I’m asking for help from my team, for your team. It’s not just my team, is it? It’s your damn team. And God damn them, they haven’t got you back up where we want to be. And let’s throw some sticks and stones at them and see how strong they are. I don’t think they’re anything that looks strong enough at the moment without the main characters. If we were losing with the main team starting, then no problem, is it?

We have to have some sort of educated look at what’s going on here. I don’t know. Come on. Surely we’ve got to give them a little bit better mark, you know? Just us, whoever, and you, in your paper, just to help a little bit, because surely we all want to see the same thing, don’t we? It’s to just win. And I’m saying at the minute, wow, if that team gets anything like a point or three points, wow, that should be the biggest and best ever, ever with who we have. I’m always believing in miracles, mate.

My team need to be right at it on the weekend, and I hope everybody who normally goes goes and understands. Understands where we are. Oh my goodness me. Because how can we help the fact that Joel McGregor might need an operation? Ben Middlemas needs an operation because he went in for a tackle and he’s come out on the wrong end. You know? And if you look at almost every one of them, it’s just, wow, what on earth is happening here?

We’re looking into what we can do, but my goodness me. That, oh my God, that’s all I can say. But I believe we’ll come out with something, the lads will try and make it work and we need one goal more than them to get a win on the road. And then things will start feeling a little bit better until we lose another one and then it might start again. Welcome to football. Nothing’s ever changed. This club’s no different than anybody else. All I’m saying, can you help my team at the moment? Because I don’t know what I’m going to pick.

I have no idea because they’re not really experiencing anything with the injuries that we’ve got. I might have to play somebody out of position because he’s got a few games under his belt rather than somebody who doesn’t know what they’re doing yet. We got it the other day where we played so many of them and we lost two-nil at home. We were absolutely slaughtered, honestly. And I’m saying, does that really help?”
