Tyson Fury desires pal President Donald Trump to steer him into his showdown with Anthony Joshua
Boxer Fury wants to show his gratitude to Trump by asking the President to be part of his ring walk in the Welsh capital on December 12
TYSON FURY wants President Donald Trump to lead him into his showdown with Anthony Joshua.
Fury, 38, and Joshua, 36, will clash in the early hours of December 12 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The all-British clash could start as late as 2am to satisfy broadcaster Netflix’s huge US audience.
At one stage the fight, which has been a decade in the making, was headed to Madison Square Garden in New York. But while Fury was happy to oblige, Joshua refused to agree and wrestled the bout back to these shores. Before the final decision had been made, Fury was flown to Washington DC on a private jet to be schmoozed by Trump.
The president had used his position to grant Fury a visa after he had previously been banned from the country. And Fury wants to show his gratitude by asking Trump to be part of his ring walk in the Welsh capital.
“I’ll definitely make that offer to my old buddy and we’ll see if he’s available,” he said. “But it’s probably unlikely because of the situation he’s in at the moment, being the President of the United States.”
The build-up to Fury’s face-off with Joshua last week was dominated by a row over who is promoting their fight. UFC chief Dana White continues to insist he is the frontman but Joshua does not want him involved.
His contract prohibits White from being front and centre but the MMA boss looks set to play his part regardless.
And Fury, who was a guest of honour at the UFC’s fight night at the White House in June, would welcome White at the top table. “I don’t care if Mr. Blobby or Santa Claus is involved,” he added. “There isn’t anybody you could say is involved and I would say I didn’t want them.
“If the Grim Reaper was involved, I’d say, ‘Crack on, let’s do it.’ “Come on already, let’s just get the fight done; does it matter if the Easter Bunny’s promoting it? “Let’s just have a fight at the end of the day.
“This fight’s been building up for about 10 years. Everybody and his dog has tried to make this fight, and it hasn’t happened.
Joshua also voiced concerns over when Fury would enrol in drug-testing. The Olympic champion believed he should have done so when contracts were signed in April.
But Fury was only tested for the first time last Wednesday. And he said: “I don’t know what his contract said, I’m not privy to that. “If I was signed up six months ago, then I’d be in trouble, wouldn’t I? “But considering I wasn’t then it’s all pretty kosher; its not really an issue.”
