Butlin’s is hunting for new Redcoats to find the next generation of Stephen Mulherns and Jimmy Tarbucks. The iconic British holiday firm is holding open auditions in Kings Cross and Mayfair in London along with its Skegness resort, where the first entertainer stepped onto the stage 90 years ago.

They are on the lookout for vocalists, singer dancers and ‘triple threat’ performers. And new recruits will join a team of over 150 cast members across the three resorts in 2027.

Mike Godolphin, entertainment director at Butlin’s, said: “Some of Britain’s best-known entertainers started their careers at Butlin’s. Ninety years after the famous Redcoat role was created, we’re looking for a new generation of performers with the personality, energy and confidence to connect with an audience.

“This could be someone’s first step into entertainment or the opportunity that takes an established performer to the next level. Successful candidates will receive professional coaching, perform for audiences of up to 2,000 guests and could appear in some of our biggest new shows for 2027.”

Along with telly host Stephen and comic great Jimmy, other famous Redcoats are TV icon Des O’Connor, crooner Sir Cliff Richard and Irish comedian Dave Allen.

The Skegness, Lincs, audition is on October 14, followed by Kings Cross on November 2 the Mayfair the next day. Successful candidates will be offered paid, full-time contracts lasting 12 months.

And they could perform for audiences of up to 2,000 guests and appear in major new shows including DreamWorks’ Madagascar – A Musical Adventure, A Billion Streams and the pantomime Snow White and Her Magnificent Friends.

The newbies will also receive coaching in presenting, performing arts and DJing through the academy. The entertainers first began at Butlin’s in 1936.

Earlier this year, a new Redcoat told the Daily Star that working at Butlin’s is a “dream come true” after she was inspired to join by a family member who worked there too.

Charlotte, 18, went on holidays to the Skegness resort as a youngster where she would watch her auntie Joanne perform as a cast singer. Now she has donned the iconic uniform and her family have been to see her performing to guests.
