Enzo Maresca has broken his silence and admitted he would only like to speak about Manchester City’s guilty verdict when they win their appeal. Maresca was in front of the media for the first time since City’s guilty verdict on Friday, October 9.

The Italian, who was due to speak ahead of City’s clash with Liverpool, said: “I understand the reasons why most of you are here, but the only thing I can say is that there is a process ongoing, and in this moment I completely trust the club. This is what I can say.

“First of all, I trust the club because I trust the people. And this is also the reason why I joined the club. And then, there is not another club in the world where I would like to be. I’m very happy to be here, I’m very proud, I’ve said it many times since day one.”

He added: “I understand the reason why most of you are here, but the only thing I can say is what I’ve said already: The reason why I joined this club is because I completely trust 100% the owners, the CEO, the sporting director – all the organisation.”

And when asked if he has had assurances from Sheikh Mansour, he said: “I spoke with the club, for sure, and we all trust. And probably the right moment to speak about that is when we’re going to win this appeal.”

He later added: “I would like to speak about this situation when we’re going to win the appeal. Now it makes no sense to speak about anything, because I don’t have many information.

“But again, I understand the reason why most of you are here because you want to hear something. But… no.”

Maresca was even asked if it should be Khaldoon Al Mubarak or Ferran Soriano addressing the media on Friday, to which he responded: “It’s a Liverpool press conference.”

“It’s our job to try and control the noise, also because again the manager and the players are focussed on winning games. Not about something different.”
