Man Utd set for switch money enhance as Real Madrid and Premier League golf equipment eye £25m deal
Manchester United could be in line for a transfer windfall with Real Madrid said to be interested in one of the Red Devils’ former players
Manchester United could be set for a transfer windfall as Scott McTominay draws interest from around Europe, increasing speculation over his future at Napoli. The midfielder has been touted for a potential Premier League return, which could deliver his former club a significant financial boost.
McTominay departed United during the summer of 2024 to join Napoli in a permanent transfer valued at £25.9million (€30.5million). The Scotland international has since become a crucial figure in the Italian outfit’s midfield.
He contributed to Napoli’s Serie A triumph in his inaugural campaign in Naples, with the club securing second place behind Inter Milan last season. Though he appears comfortable and continues to be an important player for Napoli, as he looks to return from a heart operation, rumours of a potential exit persist

McTominay is reportedly embroiled in contract negotiations with Napoli, creating the prospect of a January departure should both sides fail to reach terms. Italian publication Tutto Mercato suggests there is ‘danger’ that an exit ‘could become more and more concrete’.
Real Madrid are understood to have made preliminary inquiries to assess the circumstances, while additional Premier League interest could materialise.
Napoli are apparently eager to postpone any prospective sale until the summer, though it remains uncertain whether they can retain McTominay when the transfer market reopens in January.
Reports suggest that McTominay is ‘open’ to the prospect of making a Premier League comeback. The midfielder dedicated 22 years to Old Trafford having come through Manchester United’s youth system.
Sky Sports had previously revealed that United had ‘enquired’ about potentially bringing McTominay back, with Aston Villa also reportedly showing interest.
The report went on to state that the midfielder’s agents maintain dialogue with ‘several’ Premier League sides, though it’s uncertain whether United are amongst those clubs.
Should McTominay depart Napoli for another team in the coming period, United stand to gain financially, assuming the switch isn’t a return to Old Trafford. The club secured a sell-on clause when negotiating the midfielder’s move to Italy in 2024.
According to that arrangement, United are due 10% of any subsequent transfer fee. This could result in a substantial windfall, given the 29-year-old has boosted his standing through impressive displays for both club and country in recent campaigns.
