Gamers will have waited 13 years for the follow-up to Grand Theft Auto V by the time GTA 6 arrives – and many now have children to look after rather than endless hours to play. One mum, Bex, has booked her daughter in for a 24-hour sleepover starting at midday on launch day, hoping to get the game downloaded on her PS5 before dropping her off.

Her plan has divided fellow gamers, with some sharing their own childcare arrangements and others insisting she should wait until her child is in bed.

Sharing her strategy, Bex said: “Question for GTA parents: What are we doing about childcare? Because I have booked my daughter in for a 24-hour sleepover starting at 12 o’clock, midday on the day it comes out.

“Because my logic was that we could start downloading it on the PS5 in the morning. It’ll probably take a few hours to download. By the time it’s up and running, it’ll probably be nearly 12, I’ll drop my daughter off, so that way I’m not wasting any time.

“Do you see what I mean? I’m not child-free without being able to play, if that makes sense. So what are you doing? What are your plans?”

The strategy, which she posted on the social media platform, TikTok, sparked a massive response from people in identical situations – while others couldn’t resist disagreeing.

One person quipped: “Barricading the door and letting the kids fend for themselves. They’ll survive on cereal and vibes, GTA 6 requires my full attention.”

Another commented: “Our son is due on the 9th November so nothing. We’re just going to take turns playing GTA 6, looking after baby and sleeping, that’s our plan. Order tonnes of food and snacks too.”

A third remarked: “My husband’s booked a week off work and I am main port of call for that week, which is fine lol as he left me for 2 weeks when paralives dropped in May.”

A fourth chimed in: “Booked the 2 days off work and as a parent. Downloading it at midnight. I’ve agreed to do nursery run and dinner. And that’s it.”

Others, however, weren’t quite so impressed with Bex’s plan and criticised her in the comments.

One person said: “Maybe try being a parent and prioritising your children over a game and accept you have frown up responsibilities now.”

A second person said: “As a 42-year-old gamer who’s been playing video games most of my life… I wouldn’t dare leave my kids for 24 hours just to play a video game… I’m just a decent parent like that. I’ll game when they’re in bed.”

The upcoming PlayStation and Xbox title follows Grand Theft Auto V, which has sold more than 230 million copies worldwide and brought in more than $8 billion. That makes it one of the most profitable entertainment products in history.

Rockstar Games faces huge expectations for the sequel, which is predicted to become the most expensive game ever developed. Rumoured production costs range from $1 billion to $2 billion, although those figures remain unconfirmed.
