Drone drops McDonald’s feast and booze on to harmful lag’s jail window
A high-security prison is under fire after a lag had a late-night McDonald’s meal and booze delivered directly to their cell window by drone
A feast fit for a king was delivered straight to a dangerous crook’s jail window in a brazen late-night drone drop. The lag at Canada’s highest-security jail ordered in a McDonald’s spread including fries, chicken nuggets, dipping sauce and even a side of booze.
The airborne contraband landed right on the windowsill of a cell at the Special Handling Unit (SHU) in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Quebec. The ultra-secure fortress, built 35 miles north of Montreal, is home to around 90 of the country’s most notorious criminals who are too dangerous to be kept with normal max-security cons.
Union bosses confirmed the cheeky takeaway run, first reported by Canadian outlets TVA Nouvelles and CTV News, happened in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) insisted the facility is supposed to be “strictly regulated and rigidly controlled with a high degree of monitoring.”
Prisons chief Kevin Antonucci said: “The introduction of contraband and unauthorised items into correctional institutions remains an important issue that CSC continues to actively address.
“Any attempt to introduce contraband or unauthorised items into a correctional institution, including through the use of drones, poses a risk to the safety and security of institutions, staff, inmates and the public.
“CSC continues to implement a multi-layered approach that includes staff vigilance, security intelligence activities, searches, detection technologies and collaboration with police and other partners.”
Officials warned the fast-food loving lag now faces disciplinary action or further criminal charges if caught.
Federal Conservative public safety critic Frank Caputo ripped into prison bosses following the airborne stunt, branding the blunder “outrageous.”
He said “Drones are a huge issue dropping off drugs, weapons, other contraband, cell phones into jails. Our correctional officers deserve better.”
Investigations into the late-night McDonald’s drop are ongoing.
