Trump shares King Charles’ non-public request seconds into White House press convention
President Donald Trump has shared a request King Charles recently made to him – just seconds after taking to the stage to speak to the media outside the White House
Donald Trump has disclosed a confidential request King Charles made to him recently – mere moments after stepping up to address journalists at the White House.
The US Commander-in-Chief shared these details while he and First Lady Melania Trump were present in the White House Rose Garden for the signing of an executive order concerning women’s health.
Mr Trump had been talking about the constraints of the White House’s current event facilities and proposals for a more spacious ballroom when he cited the King as an illustration of the substantial guest numbers officials are occasionally required to cater for.
He divulged that Charles had inquired whether it might be feasible to accommodate 293 attendees, stating: “Then we had King Charles come in. Likewise, he said, ‘Would it be possible to have 293 people? We have them from the UK, all over the United States. They want to fly in.'”
Mr Trump then made light of the challenge of fitting in such a considerable gathering, noting the figure was roughly triple the room’s capacity.
He remarked: “I said, ‘Well, it’s gonna be a little… It’s about three times more than the room holds. That means I would get none.'”
The President indicated an arrangement was ultimately struck, explaining: “So we made a little compromise, but we’re gonna have no problem very shortly. We’re gonna have the kind of room we want.”, reports the Express.
The POTUS subsequently turned his focus back to proceedings, expressing gratitude to the First Lady and those assembled with them in the Rose Garden. He commended Melania’s dedication to children and families before announcing she would now channel her leadership abilities towards initiatives designed to enhance the health and wellbeing of women and girls throughout the United States.
The executive order put into effect by the President and First Lady will establish a fresh White House taskforce on women’s health, alongside a dedicated department within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) concentrating on this matter.
Melania expressed that the program would “improve outcomes in all phases of life” and set “a new standard for women’s health in America”.
Mr Trump’s previous quip about the King emerged as he revisited a topic he has consistently highlighted – the restricted capacity for hosting substantial gatherings at the White House.
The President has been forging ahead with proposals for a new White House ballroom, which would offer a considerably more spacious setting for state dinners and other significant occasions.
Building work kicked off last year, with the new ballroom taking the place of the East Wing of the White House and representing part of an enlargement of the historic site.
The White House indicates the ballroom will span approximately 90,000 square feet and accommodate 650 guests – more than triple the 200-person capacity of the East Room.
Officials have maintained that the absence of an adequately large permanent space has previously necessitated the erection of temporary structures on the White House premises for major functions involving world leaders. The venture is anticipated to set back around $250million (£187million) and will be bankrolled by Mr Trump alongside other private benefactors, according to the White House.
