‘I discovered one of the simplest ways to unleash my interior baby – each thrill seeker should strive’

OPINION: One popular UK adventure park is hosting limited sessions once the sun goes down for any budding daredevils out there, so I took a trip to put my nerves to the test

Go Ape is hosting Sundown Adventures which takes place up in the trees after dark, so I simply had to head along to check it out and see just how brave I really am. (Turns out, not as brave as I thought!)

As the sun went down, the treetop experience came alive with colourful lights and a wonderfully spooky woodland atmosphere that made the whole adventure feel extra special.

There’s something so exciting about getting up into the trees and letting your inner child run wild. I immediately took the plunge and embraced my adventurous side, swinging through the treetops and throwing myself off all the ledges time and time again.

We were in fits of laughter watching each other try (and often fail) to land our footing on the wobbly paths, while the net bridges and tunnels left us in fits of giggles as one by one each person’s foot somehow managed to fall through a different hole.

For one night we all become a kid again and as a bunch of adrenaline junkies, the zip wires were our absolute highlight. We went flying down at full pelt with colourful lights all around, screaming at the top of our lungs with the wind in our hair.

The one-hour experience is open to adventurers aged six and over, with a minimum height of 1.2 metres and a maximum weight of 130kg. Safety is taken care of with a continuous belay system, while one adult aged 18 or over can supervise up to eight children aged six to 15, either from the course or the ground.

But don’t hang about as Sundown Adventures only runs until November 8. For booking and more info, click here.

We left buzzing full of child-like joy and before we had even reached the car, we’d already begun planning our next Go Ape adventure – this time with all our other friends in tow!
