World Darts Championship star was satisfied to vary walk-on music by PDC dancers

Glen Durrant was put under pressure to change his walk-on music after defecting to the PDC from the BDO

Former darts world champion Glen Durrant was convinced to change his walk-on music by the PDC dancers.

Throughout his BDO career, Durrant entered the oche to the Perfecto Allstarz track Pigbag. However, this caused issues when he switched to the PDC, as the identical tune was already being used by two-time world champion Adrian Lewis.

Though initially determined to keep the music, Durrant eventually relented after the female dancers who perform during player entrances persuaded him to think again. Following the loss of his PDC Tour card, Durrant competed at the World Seniors Championship at the Lakeside, where he revived Pigbag as his walk-on song.

He told darts YouTuber Matthew Edgar in 2022: “I’m in the Seniors in February and I’m back with Pigbag. Ady Lewis, who are you?

“But do you know who made me change it most, the PDC dancers. When you’ve got four girls coming to you at breakfast and saying, ‘Come on Glen, what’s all that about?’ I had to change it.”

Durrant’s choice to switch to the Robbie Williams classic, Angels, proved to be inspired, as it became hugely popular with fans at major PDC tournaments.

Duzza said: “It went unbelievably. One of the better walk-ons. I think I’ve had about 10 walk-ons [tunes] in the PDC.”

However, Durrant once disclosed in a post-match interview that he considered Angels only suitable for grand occasions.

He explained: “As far as I’m concerned, I’m only walking out to that at Alexandra Palace and the majors. You can’t play in front of 200 people in Germany with that.

“The reason it worked is because thousands of people are singing it. If I’m playing in front of a couple of hundred people at Leverkusen, I don’t think it works. I’d give my right arm for Pigbag.

“At Ally Pally, Angels definitely worked, but playing in front of a lot smaller crowd who don’t know that song, [it doesn’t work].”

Beyond his trio of BDO world crowns, Durrant’s career highlight came with his Premier League triumph in 2020. However, plagued by dartitis – a condition that sees players struggle to let go of the dart – he ultimately lost his tour card before stepping away from professional competition.
