Cameron Menzies says sorry to darts rival for Ally Pally table-punching meltdown
Scottish darts ace Cameron Menzies injured his hand after uppercutting the drinks table three times after he lost to ‘Champagne’ Charlie Manby and now he’s apologised for the meltdown
Darts ace Cameron Menzies has apologised to young ace Charlie Manby for his table-punching meltdown.
The Scot injured his hand after uppercutting the drinks stand three times after he lost to ‘Champagne’ Charlie, 20, at Ally Pally. And Menzies, 36, said sorry for taking his anger out on the furniture, which had sparked boos from the crowd.
He said: “I have spoken to Charlie personally and apologised to him for my actions. He understood that I was caught up in my own moment of frustration and that it was nothing personal towards him, or his win.
“It was very important to speak to him about that, and I am grateful he never once thought I was directing anything at him. A huge thank you to everyone who has reached out with messages of support, it really means a lot. My hand is on the mend.”
Menzies was left raging after throwing away a 2-1 lead to lose to the World Darts Championship debutant 3-2. He left the stage with blood gushing from his right hand which needed hospital treatment.
The fuming arrows star also appeared to try and put out a firework with his hand. Menzies had apologised on social media over his outburst last week.
He also revealed he was upset after the recent death of his uncle Gary. The Scot said: “I saw him four days before he died and he gave a look which told me how much he thought of me. He treated me like a son.”
Meanwhile, fellow thrower Alan Soutar admitted he “reached out” to his fellow Scot.
It comes after Menzies’ ex-girlfriend Fallon Sherrock appeared to mock him by wobbling a table after her defeat to Dave Chisnall before laughing.
Elsewhere, ‘Champagne’ is through to the third round after Christmas, following a 3-0 win over Adam Sevada on Monday.
