Woman ‘gang raped in again of van’ by two males who took it in turns to assault her

Police say the woman was lured into the back of a van where she was repeatedly raped for two-and-half hours before being thrown out onto the road, suffering severe facial injuries

A woman was gang raped for hours in the back of a moving van before being dumped in the middle of the road, police in India have said.

The victim, 25, was offered a lift by two men in the Maruti Suzuki eco overnight on Monday as she was waiting for transport to take her home in Faridabad, near Delhi.

Police said the woman was held against her will for almost three hours while her attackers took it in turns to assault her and made threats when she tried to resist. She was left with severe facial injuries that needed 12 stitches and two men have been arrested..

The victim, a mum-of-three, had left her house around 8.30pm on Monday after an argument with her mother and told her sister she was going to stay with a friend, local media reports.

She was expected to return a few hours later but got delayed started to head home close to midnight. As there was no public transport running, she accepted the lift from the men in the van, who lured the woman inside with a promise of dropping her home.

Once inside the vehicle, she was allegedly raped repeatedly as the van was driven towards Gurgaon Road before being thrown from the van as it drove.

She suffered severe facial injuries and was left bleeding at the roadside near Raja Chowk in SGM Nagar. The victim was left trying to call her sister in a bid to get help.

When her sibling returned the call and discovered what had happened, horrified family members rushed to the scene and took the woman to hospital, where she was admitted in a critical condition.

Doctors at the hospital had to put stitches into the woman’s face. Her condition is now described as stable but she has not yet been able to make a formal statement as she remains in a state of shock.

The victim’s sister told police the woman had called her the evening before the attack, saying she had argued with her mother and was going to stay at a friend’s house.

The woman, who has three children, is married but lives separately from her husband following a domestic dispute. Police confirmed both suspects have been arrested and that the van used in the attack has been recovered. An investigation is ongoing.
