Two Premium Bonds savers begin 2026 with £100,000 prizes from holdings under £5,000

Two Premium Bonds savers have stepped into the new year with big Premium Bonds prizes won with small holdings. 

A winner in Essex has bagged a £100,000 Premium Bonds Prize with a holding of £2,550 from a bond bought in October 2008. 

Meanwhile, a saver in Tyne and Wear has won a £100,000 prize with a holding of £4,400. 

They only had to wait three months for their big win after purchasing their winning bond in October 2025. 

The £100,000 prize is the second largest prize tier on offer in National Savings & Investments’ monthly Premium Bonds prize draw. 

There were 77 x £100,000 prizes in this months’s Premium Bonds prize draw.

The average amount kept in Premium Bonds is currently £5,613 according to National Savings and Investments. While the maximum a saver can stash in Premium Bonds is £50,000.

The first £1million prizes of the year were won by savers based in Suffolk and Berkshire. Both held the maximum £50,000 in Premium Bonds. 

The Suffolk winner purchased their winning bond in February 2024 and is the 11th jackpot winner from Suffolk, while the Berkshire winner bought theirs in December 2019 and is now the fifth person to win a jackpot from Berkshire. 

This month there were £406.9million will be paid to Premium Bonds prize draw winners totalling 6million tax-free prizes. 

There were 135.6billion £1 Bonds eligible for the draw. This brings the grand total of prizes since the first NS&I draw in June 1957 to 809million and the total value to over £39.5billion.
