Oliver Glasner breaks silence on Man Utd job after Ruben Amorim alternative hyperlinks
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been linked with the Manchester United job following Ruben Amorim’s sacking and the Austrian gave a cryptic answer to questions about the Old Trafford role
Oliver Glasner has dismissed speculation linking him to the vacant managerial role at Manchester United, refusing to engage in discussions about the Old Trafford job.
The Crystal Palace boss has emerged as a leading contender for the position following the sacking of Ruben Amorim on Monday, due to a string of disappointing performances and a falling out with Director of Football Jason Wilcox.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Glasner is held in high regard at Old Trafford and is reportedly interested in the opportunity. His current contract with Crystal Palace runs out at the end of the season, and he is expected to leave Selhurst Park then.
The 51-year-old has had an impressive stint in South London, guiding the club to their first major trophy last season with an FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. However, he has also been outspoken about his concerns regarding transfer policies at Palace.
Glasner is a prominent name among those tipped to take over the United job permanently. But when asked if fans should back him to become the next manager at Old Trafford, he deflected the question and tried to redirect the conversation.
“I am not allowed to bet. My contract has one paragraph that I am not allowed to bet. And I don’t look at it,” Glasner stated.
“I also cannot give insider information. That would also be breaking my contract. I am Crystal Palace manager and it makes no sense for you to ask more questions about it.”
Palace have tried to convince Glasner to sign a new contract at Selhurst Park, but the Austrian remains unconvinced and may take the chance to succeed Amorim at United.
Darren Fletcher has stepped in as interim head coach at Old Trafford, with the Under-18s manager taking charge of first-team responsibilities for this week’s games against Burnley on Wednesday and Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday.
United are then expected to appoint a caretaker until the end of the season before making a permanent appointment, with Glasner being a leading candidate on the shortlist.
