Liverpool information: Transfer bid imminent as £52m ace eyed by Arne Slot and star favours Reds

Liverpool face key decisions this January as manager Arne Slot looks to continue their revival in the second half of the Premier League season

Liverpool have a hectic month ahead as Arne Slot seeks reinforcements to strengthen his squad for the season’s second half.

So far, there’s been minimal activity at Anfield in the January window, with their only transaction being the recent arrival of defender Mor Talla Ndiaye. However, the 18-year-old is seen as a future star and is expected to join the U21s upon his arrival on Merseyside.

Currently, the defending champions are fourth in the Premier League table, trailing league leaders Arsenal by 14 points after an inconsistent start to the 2025/26 season. Off the pitch, meanwhile, the rumour mill is buzzing with speculation about potential arrivals and departures. Here’s all the latest news from Anfield.

Liverpool to receive second Chiesa offer

According to Calciomercato, Juventus are preparing a significantly improved offer for Federico Chiesa.

The Italian forward hasn’t made much of an impact at Anfield since joining the Reds in 2024, making just 35 appearances under Slot in the years since, reports the Mirror.

This season has been particularly challenging for the 28-year-old, who has struggled to secure regular playing time despite Mohamed Salah’s absence at AFCON and injuries to Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.

As a result, the Old Lady are reportedly keen on bringing Chiesa back to Turin, initially offering a loan deal with an option to buy. However, after Liverpool rejected this proposal, it’s said that Juventus are now considering a loan with an obligation to buy.

£52m Real Madrid showdown looms

Liverpool seem set to engage in a bidding war for Kees Smit. The AZ Alkmaar sensation has been turning heads in the Eredivisie recently, prompting the Reds to keep tabs on him.

However, the downside is that Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in the midfielder. With a staggering £52m price tag, whoever secures the young prodigy could end up shelling out even more to outbid the competition.

This comes as Liverpool have struggled to maintain consistent control in midfield this season, with Smit seen as a potential solution to their problems, alongside the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Newcastle have also been linked with the 19-year-old prospect.

Update on Marc Guehi

Liverpool were on the verge of signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace as the summer transfer window was winding down, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute. However, it seems the Reds are ready to resume negotiations this month to seal the deal.

In a new twist, reports suggest Guehi favours Liverpool as his preferred destination this month, despite attracting attention from the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

However, Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol maintains there is “no favourite” in the battle to land the Palace captain at present, despite the player already understanding ‘exactly how he’d fit in’ at Liverpool.

Although his deal at Selhurst Park runs out this summer, the Eagles are believed to want a fee of approximately £35m to permit Guehi’s early departure.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool are willing to match that asking price, or take the gamble of waiting until the summer to secure him on a free transfer.
