Teacher banned from classroom for all times after what occurred with pupils in taxi
A professional conduct panel found that 35-year-old Adam Binns displayed ‘sexually motivated behaviour’ while employed as a teacher at Bourne Grammar School in Lincolnshire
A former teacher has been barred from the classroom for life following accusations of inappropriate and sexual conduct. The Teaching Regulation Agency has revealed the findings of a five-day professional conduct hearing examining the behaviour of Adam Binns, 35, who previously taught at Bourne Grammar School in Lincolnshire.
It was alleged that on one or more occasions around December 15 and December 16, 2017, he placed his hand beneath a female pupil’s clothes and underwear before touching her vagina.
A second allegation stated that he shared a taxi with up to three pupils during the same period before asking another female pupil if he could come into her house.
Nevertheless, the panel found that Mr Binns, who was 28 at the time of the incident, was unaware they were students before entering the taxi, reports Lincolnshire Live.
He maintained he only discovered this after one of the pupils addressed him as ‘sir’ whilst getting out.
It was further alleged that he told two of the pupils words along the lines of “don’t tell anyone what happened, because I love my job, I don’t wanna lose my job, you girls know I love my job” and/or “it’ll be your fault if I lose my job”.
The panel observed that Mr Binns’ request for the pupils to remain silent revealed his mindset at the time, suggesting he likely understood by then that he should report the incident to the school. When asked about this, Mr Binns stated he awoke the following morning after the taxi journey believing he had done nothing wrong and that “something so inconsequential” didn’t require reporting to the school.
It was further alleged that around December 22, 2017, he made several sexual comments to a pupil. These three allegations took place away from the school premises.
Mr Binns appeared before Lincoln Crown Court in 2021 where he stood trial over sexual assault charges connected to the taxi incident. A jury acquitted him of all charges.
Nevertheless, the panel, which sat in November 2025, found that Mr Binns had violated numerous professional standards and that the misconduct was exceptionally grave as it involved a teacher “exhibiting sexually motivated behaviour towards a pupil as well as behaviour that was dishonest.”
The panel was also “not convinced that Mr Binns demonstrated sufficient remorse for his past conduct.”
It was finally ruled that Mr Binns is prohibited from teaching indefinitely and is barred from working in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children’s home in England.
It was also determined that Mr Binns cannot seek reinstatement of his teaching privileges.
After the ruling, a spokesperson for Bourne Grammar School said: “On Friday, the Teacher Regulation Agency (TRA) published the outcome of a professional conduct panel into the actions of a former staff member, Adam Binns.
“The actions relate to this individual’s conduct with a group of Sixth Form students late one Friday evening in December 2017.
“The TRA help ensure that those who work in education meet the expectations outlined in what are known as the Teachers’ Standards – which are a further set of rules and requirements about the personal and professional conduct of those who work in schools.”
They added: “After a five-day hearing in November 2025, the TRA concluded that this individual is now banned from teaching indefinitely. We all work tirelessly to ensure our school is a place of safety.
“If any member of staff does not support us in that aim, then it is important that there are consequences – which is why we welcome the TRA’s decision.
“The bravery of the former students who came forward with their experiences eight years ago is also at the forefront of our minds. We hope that this outcome supports them as they continue to move on with their lives.”
