Ex-Mormon ‘too rebellious’ for sacred clothes now works as grownup content material creator

Kit Barrus was always too rebellious for the strict rules of her Mormon upbringing, so much so that she never qualified to wear the religion’s sacred garments. Now 27, the self-confessed “black sheep” has swapped modesty for empowerment as a successful adult content creator, proving that breaking the rules can lead to unexpected freedom.
Kit Barrus, a 27-year-old ex-Mormon from Southern California, USA, earns big money from making explicit content for her fans. She counts nearly 60,000 followers on Instagram and almost 150,000 on TikTok .
She has also mastered the science behind the statistics needed to be successful, thanks to her university degrees in both mathematics and psychology.
Nevertheless, Kit’s appetite for learning and intellectual inclinations weren’t compatible with the religion she grew up in. Kit was born into a Mormon family.
Mormons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), a Christian religious movement founded in the United States in the early 19th century. They are known for their distinctive beliefs, including additional scriptures like the Book of Mormon, and for following strict codes of conduct regarding family, sexuality, and lifestyle.
A particularity of the conservative religion is its temple garments. The sacred, white undergarments are worn by adult members of LDS after receiving their temple endowment, a special ceremony signifying covenants with God, serving as a personal reminder of those commitments and a symbol of spiritual protection.
They typically consist of a T-shirt-like top and knee-length bottoms, worn daily under regular clothing. Kit wasn’t considered to be a member worthy of the special underwear.
“I never had to wear garments, but my little brother did,” Kit exclusively told the Daily Star. “My little brother wears garments.”
She continued: “I was a very rebellious teenager and so I wasn’t qualified to wear garments or to go through the temple or to do any of that stuff.” She further explained: “You have to be really really squeaky clean to enter the temple.
“And you have this whole weird interview with, what’s called the bishop, at your church. The bishop asks you all these questions and I remember getting asked these questions when I was like literally 14.
“He’s like, ‘Do you masturbate?’ And it’s just you and a 70-year-old man alone in a room.
“He’s like, ‘Do you masturbate? Are you clean and pure?’
“Like all this s***, and then you get your temple recommendation. And that’s basically this little thing that says yes, I can go to the temple.
“So, I had about two years where I could go to the temple. And I did their baptisms for the dead.
“And I did all this super weird culty stuff and I hated it.” As a strategy to stop attending religious events, Kit revealed she lost her virginity to her boyfriend at the age of 16.
When she was finally confronted by her bishop after months of dodging him, Kit confessed to breaking all the commandments except murder, which shocked him and resulted in her being barred from entering the temple.
Kit had always stood out from typical Mormon children due to her rebellious spirit, intellectual curiosity, and refusal to conform to the church’s strict expectations. While many Mormon girls were encouraged to marry young, have children, and follow modesty rules, the model questioned these norms from an early age, preferring to read widely and think critically about her beliefs.
“I feel like sexuality, because it was so taboo and so offlimits for me, has always been this, almost hyperfixation of mine,” Kit said. “I just love it.”
She continued: “I think it’s so interesting the things that people hide and that they bury and that they feel uncomfortable to talk about, but that makes them feel so so good. So, I’ve always been very interested in human sexuality.”
Launching a career as an adult content creator felt like a natural progression for Kit. Now, she enjoys the freedom to travel, explore new cultures, and live a life full of experiences she never would have had if she’d stayed on the path expected of her.
“I get to learn new stuff all the time,” Kit cheered.
